I tell my blogging clients “your actions should be in line with your goals”. If you want to grow your blog but you have limited time to invest, you don’t have to do it ALL, but you DO need to know where to concentrate your efforts to be sure you’re getting the best ROI for the time you have to invest.

3 Places to Focus for Traffic and Ad revenue
If your number one goal is traffic so that you can earn income from amazon, adsense or another ad network, there are 3 things to do that will increase traffic.
Provide great content, content that solves the problems of your readers as related to things that companies are paying to advertise. That way you know that once they get there they will click on the related links in the ads. A great inexpensive tool for research is Jaaxy.com
Study and improve your SEO. If you can rank in the top 10 for a word or phrase when people search for that word, you’ll get more search engine traffic (from Google etc.) Check out our free ebook on SEO for more information.
3. Social Media
Be active on the social media where your audience is. Prove in conversations and regular informational posts that you are the expert on that topic and it will attract traffic. Interact with other information providers in the same niche. Answer questions in groups and forums and share your problem-solving posts to get more traffic. Make a goal to interact on 5-10 posts per day in a way that shows you’re available and able to serve those with _______ problem (the problem you solve).
3 Places to Focus for Product/course/service Sales
If your number one goal is to earn income through the sales of your own products and courses, you should be concentrating your efforts on building up your expert reputation and your email list through the following focuses:
1. Quality content
You may have heard the term “longer is stronger”. If you are regularly producing posts of relevant, quality information on your topic of expertise, and can get that content referred to by other leaders in the niche, it will be a stronger support to your “claim to fame”. Having a course or book/ebook on the topic further serves to support your expert status.
2. Guest posts interviews and appearances
When others promote you to their audience it backs up your status as an expert and also increases your exposure. Guesting on blogs, podcasts, shows etc is a great way to also grow your list, which statistically gives you better chances of conversions when you offer your product to your list.
3. List building
Simply doing the math, a larger list of interested folks, means larger numbers of people buying your product/service. Focus on providing targeted opt-in offers. The perfect opt-in is the one people opt-in for, so make it something related to the product you offer, that is valuable and helps them in some way solve a problem. That helps to create trust and gets them into your email sales funnel for the other products/services you offer.
3 Places to Focus for Affiliate Income
If your number one goal is earning affiliate income you should concentrate on
1. Review content
2. Social media
Keep pushing those review posts and informational why-you-love-it blurbs out to your social media in creative ways. Be sure you're using #aff or something else prior to the link to designate that it is an affiliate link you're sharing (per FTC guidelines).
3. Email Your List
Concentrate on loving and serving your email list. The more they know you, like you, trust you, the better they’ll respond when you offer an opportunity to purchase something that will solve a problem for them or make their life easier in some way.
