Social Media Platforms for Marketing

Social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, etc. are great places to find your target audience and get in touch with them. Often we focus on building engagement with readers there and then work on getting them back to our website.

Social media sites however are also a great place to build your email list. And when they're on your list it’s easy to get back in touch with them when your favorite social media site changes its algorithm and your audience suddenly is not seeing all your posts in their feed anymore.

How to Grow Your List with Your Social Media Activity

1. Create a Dedicated Opt-in Page

The first thing you want to do is set up a dedicated opt-in page. Kim Garst of Boom Social, does this well. A dedicated Opt-in page is a simple page on your blog or website that’s set up with the sole purpose of convincing readers to sign up for your list. If you want to get fancy, you could even set up a different opt-in page for each social media page and customize your content to those audiences. These are especially easy to do with LeadPages. Or you could keep it simple and just create just the one page you’ll use everywhere.

2. Add the Special Opt-in URL to your Social Media Platforms

Next, log into your social media profiles and either add or replace your regular website URL with the new opt-in page URL. This one change will start to send a nice little stream of social media traffic to this page and grow your list. As readers check out your profile and click through to learn more about you and your blog, they will see your special welcome and opt-in gift and end up on your list.

3. Promote Your List Regularly

Last but not least, make it a habit to regularly invite your social media followers to sign up for your list. Try various approaches:

  • One week, you may highlight a particular benefit of being a list subscriber.
  • Next, you may give them a hint about an email that will go out the following day, inviting them to sign up so they don’t miss it.
  • Or you could offer them an exclusive coupon or offer that will go out to newsletter subscribers only.
  • Ask your followers to share and invite people to your list for a certain gift you are offering.

Try a few different types of posts until you find what works well on each social media platform. Building your list is just one aspect of using social media platforms for marketing.

What is an Example of a Social Media Strategy?

So number one would be to record and post a short video. And if you're aware of Tik TOK and YouTube shorts and all of those things, you know, that this short video craze is a thing these days, and you'd be surprised at how much content or how much value you can pack into 15 seconds.

We have been creating three 15-second videos a day, almost every day, since the beginning of January this year. We're starting to see traction. You say, well, you're three months in yes we are, and, so this is a long-term strategy.  But if you do it at the moment, it only takes a short time.

So do one video or do three 15-second videos and then go post them on all of your platforms that take their short videos. You can get out there and get some visibility in less than 10 minutes a day. It's interesting to watch if you watch that data over time, in terms of your analytics. This will continue to grow, and continue to go up in terms of the number of people that you're reaching. Those calls to action can turn into leads for you and your program as well.

Social Media Strategy Examples

Next, go and spend 10 minutes commenting on other people's content. Algorithms are constantly changing. However, speaking words of life never goes out of style. So, go and comment on other people's content, especially accounts that are bigger than you. Then you are getting your name out there and adding positivity to their communities. You are adding value to their communities, getting your name in front of their people by doing that as well, and just all-around creating a positive return there.

Grow Your Audience and Your Business Online

The next thing that you can do in less than 10 minutes, is to create three ideas for content that could be controversial in your niche. This is not because we want to instigate trouble, this is because we want to make a point we want to stand up for something.

I believe that as the world continues to get more and more chaotic, it's going to be more and more important for those of us who are believers in the marketplace to stand up for what we believe in. So I think that it is completely appropriate and sometimes necessary for us to take a stand on the values that are important to us.

Social Media Visibility in 10 Minutes per Day

Even when we know it could attract some unwanted attention it will also immediately allow you to separate those who are your people from those who are not your people. The people who don't resonate with that value or that message are going to not want to follow you after that.

Those who do back you up will become even greater fans. So just a thought for you. Something you can do in 10 minutes or less to continue to grow your reach and grow the interest for your course or your program on social media.

Consistency in Posting on Social Media

Want to know the secret to making posts on social media work for you? Consistency is one of those keys that can make or break a business. Consistency is something that is highly overlooked and underrated. It's one of the things that we all struggle with the most in our personal life as well as in our business life. But there are some key things that you can do to be able to improve that consistency and improve what you're doing over time.  We need to be persistent and get our message out there and the interesting thing about social media and marketing on social media is that not everyone sees everything you post all the time.

We're just bombarded everywhere right now with so many messages. There are so many decisions to make and so many options out there. So, people need to see things more. They need to trust more. They need to get more information than they used to. So you need to be putting your things out there consistently on a consistent basis to be able to do this.

Posts on Social Media to Grow Your Business

So there are things that make the difference between those who ultimately win and those who don't. Consistency is not just putting out the same thing every day. Are you putting out posts on social media that aren't resonating with your people? Are the things you are doing moving the needle for you?

If not, then consistency is not the only aspect to look at. So, look at what you're putting out there. What is the goal you're focused on? Do you have a goal this month or this quarter that you're working towards? Does this thing that you're putting out there every day, move you closer to that goal?

If not, set it aside and focus on putting out something that does move you closer to your goal. There's a lot of busy work that we've acquired in online marketing spaces that don't need to be there.  You need to be posting the things that are getting you closer to your goal. You need to be engaging people, The things that are calling folks out of the crowd, get them to raise their hand, and say yes, that's what I need are what move you forward.

Business Success Tips for the Hard Days

If it's hard for you to be consistent, create self-accountability that helps you put in place the safeguards you need to be consistent.  If it's hard for you to do something on a regular basis, make an appointment and have somebody that you're going to check in with.  Make it an appointment on your calendar. If you don't show up and keep appointments for yourself, make an appointment with someone else. Say, “Hey, I'm gonna message you on Monday at five before I go live.”

Whatever you need to put into place to safeguard those committed so that you can be consistent and do the work that you need to do. You need to put it on the calendar so that you can block off that time. Block that time off so that you can get done the things that you know you need to get done consistently.
