Let's go over various different ways to use PLR (Private Label Rights) content to boost your business. It’s a great way to get fresh content for your marketing and take a bit of a break from creating everything yourself. But that’s not the only way to use PLR… not by a long shot.
In today's post, Susanne Myers & Tracy Roberts from www.PiggyMakesBank.com are back with more information about PLR. Enjoy!
What Is PLR?
Let’s start with the basics. PLR stands for Private Label Rights. And for our purposes, we’re talking about private label rights content. This could be articles, short reports, ebooks, emails, videos, audio recordings, music, etc. Any type of content you can think of that you use in your online business, chances are there’s private label content out there as well.
At Piggy Makes Bank we mainly focus on written content, so that’s what we’ll talk about here. The basic idea is that we write content – a series of articles or blog posts, a short report, a longer eBook, a series of email messages, etc. And then make it available to you and others for purchase.
What Can You Do with PLR Content?
- You can buy the content and treat it like something you’ve written.
- You can edit it as much or as little as you’d like.
- You can put your own name on it and post it on your blog.
- You can use it in your emails.
- You can create a paid product with it.
If this sounds a lot like having ghostwritten content, it’s because it is. The main difference is that PLR is a lot more affordable since it’s sold to multiple people (who will use it in different ways). And as an added bonus, we do all the research into popular and profitable topics and come up with content ideas for you.
How Can PLR Help Me Save Time and Grow My Business?
Another question that comes up frequently is why do you need to use PLR in the first place. Wouldn’t it be cheaper to write everything yourself? Sure it is… but there are some pretty great reasons to use PLR.
The main reason is that it saves you time and allows you to grow faster than you can when researching, writing, and editing everything yourself. If you’ve been blogging for a while, you know that it takes a lot of time. There are always more things to do and explore and writing the content is only the first step. Then you have to come up with related content for your emails, post on social media, connect with other bloggers in your niche, etc. All that takes time.
PLR allows you to recoup some of that time by having well-researched, written, and edited content ready for you to use however and wherever you need it. That added content alone will help you grow your reach, but it also allows you to focus on marketing a bit more which can result in exponential growth.
Isn’t Using PLR cheating?
Here’s another great question.
Q: Isn’t using PLR cheating and less authentic?
A: It depends on how you look at it. We don’t think it’s cheating. We think it’s a valid time-saving technique if you do it right. If all you do is buy a bunch of crappy PLR, use a script to load it all up to a site, and call it a day, then using PLR isn’t an authentic way to blog.
But if on the other hand you go out and find quality PLR (like ours for example), give it a slight edit to make sure it fits in with the tone of voice and theme of your website and that content helps or entertains your readers, then we don't consider that cheating at all. We think of it as working smart. It's like paying a ghostwriter who just wrote before you commissioned the piece. In many cases, your readers won’t even realize you’ve used PLR.
4 Ways to Use PLR to Market Your Business!
There are affiliate links in this post. Click to see our full disclosure here.
Let’s start with the basics. PLR articles are a great time saver when it comes to blogging. You can take the articles, paste them into your blog, do a little editing and prettying up and BOOM, you’re done blogging for the day. To help make the content a little more unique and fit your style of blogging, we recommend you come up with a new title and do a bit of light editing here and there.
Another option is to think of PLR as research. You don’t have to post it as is. Instead, use it as a shortcut or outline to write your own content. Read through the articles in the PLR bundle. Since they are well researched and well written, you’ll have a really good idea of what you want to talk about. Then just rework it as needed and write up a quick series of blog posts.
Lead Magnets and Bonuses
One of our favorite ways to use PLR is to create fresh new lead magnets (subscriber freebies) and bonuses on a regular basis. For this we either start out with a short report, or paste a series of articles into one document, add a pretty cover page, and a few links to our blogs or affiliate products and it’s ready to upload.
Using PLR as short reports works really well to entice readers to sign up for your list. Switching things up and adding a fresh lead magnet every once in a while is a simple way to make sure your list continues to grow.
And these short reports make great bonuses. Use them to participate in bundle sales, add them as a bonus to your own products and membership sites, or brand them with your blog URL and add a call to action to connect with you on your blog and your social media channels and offer the report as a bonus to other info product sellers. It’s a great way to grow your reach and gain new readers.
Email and Newsletter Content
Written content doesn’t stop at your blog. You also need to email your list regularly. Use PLR as a shortcut there as well. Use the articles in your newsletter or the other email messages you send to your readers.
Paid Products and Membership Content
Last but not least, let’s talk about paid products. PLR is a great way to get started on your info product empire. Buy a biz in a box PLR bundle, or grab a few related PLR article bundles and/or short reports and edit them into one eBook on a topic. Add your own editorial content, and a pretty cover, and you’re ready to sell it.
Or set up a membership site in your niche and use PLR to help you create exclusive membership content each month.
Of course, that’s not an all-inclusive list, but these assets also make excellent content to repurpose and reuse. Check out below 5 ways to re-use PLR for greater impact.
5 Ways to Re-use PLR
Most of us start out by adding PLR articles to our blogs. That’s great. But don’t stop there. Look through each piece of PLR that you’ve posted and see if there’s something you can pull out from it and turn it into a separate blog post.
1. Turn it into a series
For example, let’s say you have a PLR article about 3 ways to grow your list. Start three new blog posts, paste the main point for each in there, add a new intro, explain in a little more detail, or add an example and a screenshot and you have 3 more posts ready to go that make a great follow-up to the first one.
2. Create a short report or subscriber freebie
Or let’s say you bought a pack of 10 PLR articles on making bone broth and are adding them to your site. While you’re doing that, compile them into a short report and use it as a new lead magnet to build your list. Even better, add a custom opt-in box at the end of each post inviting readers to sign up for all the bone broth-making tips, advice, and recipes.
3. Use it for email content
Then repurpose the content again, by creating a series of emails that use a snippet of the content and a link to the blog post.
4. Include in your next ebook
When it comes to repurposing PLR, the sky is the limit. You can also include that same pack of Bone Broth PLR articles in a book or eBook about healthy eating, cooking from scratch, or getting started with Paleo for example.
5. Break it up into social media posts
And don’t forget about PLR when you need to come up with some fresh Social media content. Pull two or three quotes from each piece of content and post it along with a link to your published blog post (or an opt-in for the short report, or the sales page for your book).
We hope you’ve enjoyed this little guest post series on Private Label Rights (PLR) content and are ready to start using it in your online business.
